St. George Excavation and Landscaping
In the southwestern corner of Utah lies the rich and growing community of St. George. With a population of just over 170,000, the city maintains the qualities of both a rising economy with a small-town feel. Right on the border between the red rock canyons of Zion’s National Park and the Mojave Desert, it has become more than just a rest stop for travelers of I-15. It is a great place to live and an even better place to develop land for real estate construction or landscaping.
Founded in 1861 by pioneer settlers from Salt Lake City, St. George was to be established as a cotton growing community. This is why the town’s original name was Dixie, a name the area maintains to this day. Unfortunately, due to the poor soil and drought, the town never succeeded in the cotton-growing mission. But due to the town’s proximity to beautiful locales and landmarks, it soon became a tourist town when the railroad was connected up north and further west.
Today, St. George has capitalized on its location even further as a center of tri-state tourism, as well as the education and healthcare industries. St. George is home to Dixie State University, boasting a student body of over 11,000 as of 2019. St. George also hosts Dixie Technical College, which has helped Utah’s blue-collar industry thrive. St. George is home to many successful businesses, including SkyWest Airlines. If you live and work in St. George, or are thinking of developing land or building a home, you will discover that the growing desert city is full of opportunity.
